In my opinion, these ways of learning English serve different purposes. Watching movies is good for learning to speak and understand conversational, collquial English, and is essential for learning to communicate. Reading books is an opportunity to improve your grammar and enrich your vocabulary. Either of this methods is good for practice, but to achieve better results one should use both. That's what I think.

Hi.
I think that both have their positive and negative points. Watching movie gives the advantage of sound effects, video special effects and other many advantages. While it affects eyes and ear. On the other hand while reading a book we can not get these special effects, but it gives peace to mind and do not give stress to eyes and ears.

In my opinion its on the nature of one, how he/she thinks. Reading books can be more effective because for that you have to be very consistent in reading because if you misses sometime not spending your time reading you will loose you momentum of reading fluently... and you will fell tired when ever you touch or see the book... Movie other hand easy to handle because if you don't like it you can leave it or you can see it with your friends/family and let the time pass...

So, in my opinion Reading is more effective than Movie..

Hi,
I think reading is more effective to acquire any language, it does not mean reading heavy books, but by reading articles, stories, and magazine, the language will improved and the learner will learn much more without any tension...
Reading for pleasure is the most effective way. Good Luck

As you, I personally think that both reading and watching will help you a lot in learning English. However, improvement absolutely depends on what will you do. If you want to improve your E by these ways, you have to pay much attention whenever reading and watching. For example, if you watch movies, you should be patient to listen what the characters are saying, then take note and try to remember if you find they are useful for your learning, and also for reading. Especially, when you read, you should read out loud and try to understand the meaning of sentences immediately. This method helps you a lot in speaking, pronunciation and English comprehension. Maybe, you will face some difficulties at the first time, but day by day, you will familar with this method and I strongly believe that you will get a good result after. {-:

In my opinion, both of them are very important for improving your proficiency in English. To be more precise, Reading is useful for grammar, scanning and skimming. Movies are useful for enhancing listening, speaking and knowing better expressions.
