Some linguistic facts

Hello everyone,

I would like to share with you some interesting facts.

1. Town - is one of the most oldest word in English language.

2. Papua New Guinea inhabitants all together speak almost 700 languages (which makes 15% of all the languages in the world)

3. O - is one of the ancient letter.

4. The Berber people living in North Africa do not have writing (a written form, script). Btw, famous football player Zidane is Berber. :-)

5. Almost - is the longest word in English, in which all letters are in alphabetical order.

6. In English, there are no words rhyme with the words month, orange, silver and purple.

7. UFO in Spanish will be - OVNIS ("objeto volador noidentificado"). :-)

8. The word "metro" in Japanese consists of three characters meaning "bottom", "soil" and "iron ".

9. An artificial international language Esperanto was created in 1887 by the Warsaw doctor L. Zamenhof.

10. Swahili - a combination of African tribal languages, Arabic and Portuguese.

11. The longest English words in which no vowel - "rhythms" and "syzygy".

12. In the Chinese language sounds of "p" and "l" does not differ.

13. In the Hawaiian alphabet only 12 letters.

14. In English, more than 600 000 words.

15. Latin name of Mickey Mouse - Mikael Muskulus. :-D

16. Latin letter W in the Latin alphabet does not exist. :lol:

17. In the Chinese writing there are more than 40 000 characters.

18. Ernest Vincent Wright's novel Gedsbi" is consists of more than 50,000 words. Throughout the novel, not a single letter E (the most common letters of the English language). :!!:

19. American President, Benjamin Franklin, gathered more than 200 synonyms of the word "drunk", including such masterpieces as "cherry-merry", "nimptopsical" and "soaked".

20. At the United Nations there are only six official languages: English, French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish. :twisted:

21. In the language of the Inuit, names for snow are more than 20 words.

Curious.
About UFO, (in Spanish OVNI), In Spain was applied to all unknown flying objects, as for example several years ago, a bulled shot by a police man against the civilians. Always was unknown the provenance of that object. Although always was known the destiny of the victim: a luxurious and multitudinous burial. ;-)
