Thanks Setayesh!

Hi Setayesh,

How are you? I hope you are great. Thank you very much for completing the sentences. Your English is excellent. Your answers are correct, but I've got different idea about two of them. Let's have a look at question 4 and 6!

First, let's consider question 4:

4) He has confidence . I've never known anyone so unsure of himself.

As it is clear, the first part is opposite of the second part. If he has confidence, why is he a symbol of unsureness to his friend? I think the correct answer is:
4) He lacks confidence . I've never known anyone so unsure of himself.

And question 6:
6)I like someone, but I lack confidence to go up to her and ask her out!

When someone lacks confidence, s/he has not got it in almost all situations. However, in this sentence, the person only has not got certain kind of confidence to ask a girl for going out. Therefore, I guess the correct answer is:
6)I like someone, but I haven't got the confidence confidence to go up to her and ask her out!

I am sure you know the answers and the grammatical points. I just wanted to give some explanation of my own choices to people who are following our questions and answers. In fact, many people-through emailing, calling , catting, etc.- have asked me to keep this method going. They have found this method really useful for practising English. I'd like to take this proper opportunity to thank you for participating and to all learners for following the posts. Actually, your emotional connection with us through reading our posts motivates us to continue and encourages us to try our best to keep the flame shining and the flag waving!

Thank you for reading.

Hi Behnam,

Thousands innocent people are being murdered in Gaza by a terrorist regime of Israel . They Israel soldiers are attacking children, women and civilian people in Gaza and killing them savagely by air fighter ,artillery and shelling . They have called it war , killing undefended people . They are very rude ,because many western countries are supporting Israel , some governments like USA , UK, France are supporting Israel to kill as many as children and women in Gaza. Wolves in sheep dress, what is all people of the world know it. Sometime you see reports in western press about animals , they are worry about animal life. ( e.g some whales have stuck in the beach and lost their lives ) It is absurd to see in western press these subjects , why the criminals are worry for animals , but if thousands of people are murdered in Gaza and they are not worry. Because there is no benefit for them , only what has benefit for them is important ,otherwise they easily kill millions of whales

Hi Mohsen!

Post by behnam »

Hi Mohsen,

Unfortunately, that is a bitter disappointment to the world. Innocent people; women and children are killed. I am really sad about what happening in Gaza. However, dear Mohsen, let's keep this thread only for practising English and improving our skills. Have you forgotten the bitter experience we had on 'WWW.English-at-home'? After 4 years running a long thread with a lot friends from all over the world, political and religious issues caused us to leave that place. }:

Dear Mohsen, I hope you will get what I mean. We have accepted to avoid discussing heated topics. Let's follow the rules if we care about having a nice place to be in; to spend some good on writing, reading, and imagining the friends faces.

Why don't you join us in making some questions and answering to them? Please participate actively. The number of views from this thread increases dramatically these days. We are going to have a very successful thread again. We will be effective in spreading love and kindness through practising English for peaceful purposes. You know why? WE will communicate effectively in English, because we are learning English. We will talk with people in all over the world in public places such as Facebook, etc. We will let the world know we are a peace-loving nation and will avoid war at all costs.

I hope to hear from you soon.

My new life has got a lot of good things and I am happy with it, I spent a great Eid and a lot of memorable days!
Of course, as everything, it has its ups and downs due to the differences between us.. However, I am trying my best to make things go well.

Please pray for me, I really need it.

Love you!

Hi Elham,

Thank you for posting the answers. Your answers are correct. I don't know why you have left the first question unanswered. Well, the only unused expression is
'to declare war', so it becomes:
1) The government has declared war on drug dealers as from today.

There are some replaceable expressions. I write the answers again, to re-practice and let you and others become sure about the correct answers!

1) The government has declared war on drug dealers as from today.
2) The UN is doing everything it can to protect war between the two countries.
3) They won the war, but it cost millions of lives and ruined the economy.
4) Billions are being spent on weapons and arms as the country prepares for war.
5) While the men were away at war, many women went to work in the factories.
6) Peace lasted in Europe for over 20 years before war broke out again in 1939.
7) There are fears that this minor border dispute could escalate into a full-scale war.
8) Some people say that the scars left by civil war never heal.
9) It will be a long and a futile war. Neither side will achieve anything by it.
10) There is always the frightening possibility that what begins as a conventional war could easily become a nuclear one.
11) British nationals were advised to leave the country, following the outbreak of civil war.
12) Thousands of prisoners of war were kept in camps and subjected to inhuman treatment.
13) Countries justify having nuclear weapons by claiming that they reduce the threat of war.
14) Today, television can carry the full horror of war directly into our homes.
15) In this species the two parents' chloroplasts engage in a war of attrition that destroys 95 percent of them.

I hope this helps you with practicing English.

Love has finally succeed!

Post by [amal] »

Hi friends,

How are you?

After two days I have a wedding party and I am sooo excited about it! Because it will happen after a long suffer and many years of rejection, tears and stress. But finally love has won and challenged all the circumstances..

From this story, I have learned that we can achieve whatever we want but it just needs time and being patience. Above that, if we badly want somthing, we should fight for it and don't give up no matter how long it take.

I wish all the best for my best friend "the bride" and wish you all a happy life full of love and joyful days..

Love you,
Amal

Hi Elham,

Thank you very much for completing the sentences. Your answers are correct. Your English is great.

I'd like to draw your attention to the questions 9 and 12. In question 9, the second part plays a key role. In fact, the second sentence helps us choose the correct answer between 'confirmed rumours' and 'denied rumours'. Let's have a look at question 9:

9) In an interview the actress .......... that she will be quitting the show. She said she would be leaving at the end of the current series.

As it is obvious, the actress will leave so the rumours about her are true. Therefore, we should say:
9) In an interview the actress confirmed rumours that she will be quitting the show. She said she would be leaving at the end of the current series.

All your answers would be correct if we could replace the answers of questions 9 and 12!
