Should there be '-ly'

Post by mokozilee »

Hi

Please help me with this:

Is it acceptable to say that there is a 20% off on a regularly priced item?

I see this very often on American websites. OR, is it more 'grammatically correct' to say, "....regular-priced item"?

Thanks

The suffixes -ly is mostly use when the word is adjective. Grammatically speaking regular priced is the correct way to say.

priced is an adjective modifying the word item.
regularly is an adverb modifying the adjective priced.
Words with suffix -ly added at the end of the root/main word is an adverb. Adverbs are words that modify an adjective, verb or another adverb.

Your first statement is correct.
"Is it acceptable to say that there is a 20% off on a regularly priced item?"
