Living among the sick
and the sickening what else
shall I carry except
germs and allergens that keep
me tossing and turning
from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
perhaps from the day one
I've never slept well and now
I want to sleep without pills
drinks, 'zines or sex
thoughtless, prayerless, in peace
