Hebe wrote:It is recommended in the Nine-Year Integrated Curriculum Guidelines that English teachers in elementary schools and junior high schools adopt “ multiple approaches to assessment,” Since the Grade 1-9 Curriculum Guidelines had been published by the Ministry of Education in 1998, the major features of the nine-year integrated curriculum are as the followings:
The foundation of making a good English learning environment is that nature and happiness are the basic elements for children. To develop student’s interest and the concepts of communication is also essential. Therefore, Nine-Year Integrated Curriculum are designed by the current most popular pedagogy: CLT ( Communicative Approach), integrating the daily conversation and creating the rich language learning environment are emphasized. For some, CLT means little more than an integration of grammatical and functional teaching. It lets students learn the abilities to communicate with other people, the activities in class are centered on students, too. Teachers play the role of a facilitator to supply, encourage, and help students’ learning. More importantly, in order to broaden the students’ sights and horizons, the textbooks are published by a variety of different customs and cultures from different countries. Designed on the practical and easy to difficult .
In Taiwan, the changes going on in English teaching is a new perspective. All teachers for EFL( English as a foreign language) shall be prepared to handle this situation. The adoption of the Communicative Approach has raised important issues for teacher training, materials development and testing and evaluation. Building a good English environment is not only the responsibility for governments but also parents and every people from different backgrounds’ cooperation , will make the next generation happy and effective to learn the second language.
