A milestone on my life journey
I could see the mountain ranges lying in the east, while I was standing on the corridor. They are thinly blanketed with fog, featuring that it seems like a romantic picture to my eyes. The scene reminds me of a milestone on my life journey. I walked through that mile stone through challenges in one winter. It was also a test for my perseverance and determination.
If I thought of that trip, the first person I saw in mind is my uncle who took me along with him to be able to set a new milestone on my journey of life. One fine winter morning, he dropped in my house and asked me how much perseverance I could exert in practical. I was annoyed of being asked such question. He smiled at me and continued that there would be a test for my perseverance if I was willing to take part in. Without second thought, I accepted his challenge.
Then, I found myself taking the back seat on my uncle’s motorcycle and heading for a town which is called “Myit Thar.” It was in the afternoon. It took us an hour to arrive an old building somewhere in the town, which I came to know later as an Immigration office. Next morning, a local truck came to pick us up. My uncle gave me a viss of beans to be carried with me. Not knowing anything, I seated on the local truck and started our trip soon.
After half an hour, the local truck stopped at the foot of the mountain ranges and my uncle asked me if I was ready to take the test or not. A nod was an answer. Then, we started walking up along the mountain ranges. For first few mountain ranges, I seemed okay walking on a narrow lane up to the top of the mountain. After reaching the zenith of one mountain range, I felt very relieved and took a deep breath by holding my head up high.Oh my goodness!! Another mountain range was lying right in front of me. My strength was instantly wearing out. But I had to keep on walking up as I had no choice.
As soon as I stepped on the top of the mountain, I saw another mountain range there. My excitement and vigour steadily declined. I judged it was a break time for me. Luckily, I found some gooseberries around me as I was sitting on a stone under a gooseberry tree. It made me quench my thirst. But the only thing I craved for is just forty winks as I imagined a nice bed of mine at home. Then, I resumed my trip on the rest of mountain ranges.
The more I walked on, the heavier my body was. I deeply came to know about the force of gravity. I wanted to give up my attempt of waking. But I saw my uncle’s face in my mind. I held up my head high again to reach my destination. The whole body was soaked with sweat while carrying a viss of beans along with me. I made up my mind not to think of too much. I tried to balance my steps on a narrow lane through the mountain ranges.
I tried to carry my heavy body till I could see a zedi [pagoda] at the peak of the mountain. It was the last mountain range. Air flowed out through my ears. I was too tired! I found myself crawling on a narrow lane to get there. At last, I reached at my destination. A delight of conquering myself rolled up. I lied down at the bottom of the pagoda , smiling and watching at the highest point of the pagoda. The chimes on the zedi made me fall asleep straight away.
