Let's go Dutch!

Post by Robert »

I wonder to know why we said the slang "Go Dutch" to mean
that people pay a meal by themselves.
But why not "Go the USA" "Go France''?

I 've looked on a web but I can't understand what the paragraph means.
Does anyone who can explain it to me?

Here is the web addresss:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Going_Dutch

Thanks a million!

It seems to derive from the idea behind Dutch Treat...where everyone pays for themselves, in a situation where people eat out together. It is a great thing to do when on a budget, but only with friends.

It can be used for a first date if someone is being really very cheap! I don't reccomend it, it just isn't very nice but it is very revealing that a guy is probably stingy or tight-fisted, and selfish, with money... if he suggests this to a girl he wants to date..... you probably won't get a second date if you ask a girl to "Go Dutch".

I think I will have to disagree with a lot of girls on this issue... If my boyfriend asked me to go dutch then I m not gonna jump to the conclusion that he is CHEAP... Women talk about equality n how there should be no gender discrimination, then why hold on to old fashioned ' boy friend should pay for everything' notion.... I dont think its fair.......

Im inclined to agree that this is a broad and prejudiced statement....I take it back! :)
