This is said when you want someone to come straight to the point. It means stop talking around the subject and tell me exactly.
Example: Someone asks you if you smoke and instead of answering 'yes' or 'no' but just talk about smoking in general. Then they would say to you, "don't beat about the bush, just answer yes or no."
