hello, guys, recently i am doing some studies on the english modal verbs. and i encoutered the following sentence, i donot know how to explain, so could you help me out? thanks a lot
Ford urged Morgan to capture these men who, he thought, might be disguised as Quakers.
can i take out the phrase "he thought". this sentence is still correct?

yes, you have given your answer, but i still have questions for your answer,sometimes, students are not satisfactory with teachers' answers and new questions appear. that happens often.
anyway here is my doubt:
if we adjust the verb form to "might have been disguised", it shows that from the utterer's point of view, it was possible that these men had been disguised. but with any ajustement, can we remove the phrase "he thought"?
i have no idea, can you help me out?
