If I say to my friends looking together at one of my old pictures,
"Let's see, this is me. Next but one from the right",
Am I at the second place or the third place from the right?

2) O O O O O O ME O O

Next from the right = the one NEXT to the first one; so, second...

If you say next BUT one from the right (clumsy English, but understandable) you are third in line - hope that helps...
