I came through this line
Things were a bit slack in those days - there was a war to win!
What is the meaning of slack here?

Could be several meanings, for example:
They didn't really stick to the rules in those days -
Business was a bit quiet in those days -
PS: you didn't come "through" this line: you came "across" it
