When I was a teenager I loved Tan Nhac (pop music) and I hated Co nhac (old southern Vietnamese music) Thought that I would never like it, but since I am older and living in the foreign land, I miss these melodies so much. Every time I play Vong Co on my stereo I can feel that I am there in my village where I grew up. I can see the rice farm, the river, the clump of bamboo and so on... I don’t know why. May be Vong co already occupied in my blood when I was there and I did not know it.

I used to be like that, too. Whenever my sister, cousins, my mother, or aunts put the folk or theatrical music on, I would cover my ears and ran away. I hated it. But as I've grown older and the fact that our folk and theatrical music is in danger I feel a patriotic feeling to save whatever is Vietnamese culture, traditions, treasures, and so on. I don't say that I like that type of music now because I still can't see myself related to be a fan of that music; it's not my taste. However, I'll try my part to save it.

Hi Lennye,

Thanks for what you’ve been doing to save our traditional music. Infact most young generation who live in the foreign counties, they don’t understand what the value of our culture. They grow up in the new environment and they don’t know much about their original. I don’t blame them at all. In order to keep our tradition, older generation must pass these to younger one.

By the way, do you like “Nhac Thinh Phong”? Tuan Ngoc and Kanh Ha are my favorite vocalists.

I have gone to the concert that he performed for one song and gosh, he was the most hilarious Vietnamese male singer I have ever met. When I saw him in Paris by night the first time, I was like, man this guy is the most boring guy I have ever seen. I pity the woman whom he's with. It turned out I was wrong. Now, I pity the woman who has left him.

I know his style is not popular like the others, but his singing is one of the best intimate atmosphere (thinh phong) Vietnamese music in current time. He is always carefully choice the right song for his vocal and most of them are hard to sing. There are some young male singers like Tran Thai Hoa, Nguyen Khang and Quang Dung (in Vietnam) follows his steps and they seem doing very well. I like his voice very much.

Don't you think Quang Le is better than Tran Thai Hoa? And Ngoc Ha is pretty amazing, by the way.

They are different taste. Quang Le and Ngoc Ha are good in Nhac Que Huong but not in the others. I like them too. However Classic, Jazz and some New Age are my favorites.

I don't know much about Jazz, so I wonder if Asian Jazz and Westerner Jazz have anything in common. If they're different, I wonder how much of a difference.
