I have ever been there, but I have been falling in love with it through books, magazines, websites and movies about it.

Hong Kong people....

Postby sky888walker » Sun Jun 19, 2005 5:05 pm

Jasmine, I have not yet had any chance to meet or interact with any person coming from HongKong. However, i have heard from my other colleagues about HongKong people. They are bit rude and cold hearted. When they walk on the street, they dont even care about who is walking from another direction. They will bump into that person and keep on walking without saying any sorry.

Very tough life exists in HongKong.

Hongkong people may always think about nothing other than money. They are also very concern about prestige and expensive stuffs. Many times people are comparing what they wear, what they drive and where they dine. Everything is measured by money. The more expensive stuffs you have, the higher level you have in society.

Again, Jasmine, i have no clear idea about HongKong people. One last thing is that they rarely can smile. I dont know how much do people have to pay to see a smile. I do hope i am wrong. Perhaps you can share with me.

Well, there you go. Life is tough and maybe that's why they don't have time to stop for a simple apology when you see them coming and you are still in their way  . Just joking. I'll let this for Hongkongese to explain themselves.

Where did you get this? I think when you say something like this, please cite your resource or say I've heard.

You have no idea how they are and here you are, going on and on like you've known them for life. How sad!

just bit more ...

Postby sky888walker » Thu Jun 23, 2005 5:12 pm

I dont think that everytime we hear something we need to quote and said who tell us. On certain important events, yes, i agree with you that we should quote but on informal discussion like this, i would like to just throw out what i have inside my mind and let them response. If it's true then they will confirm but if it's not true then they will explain.

I am telling the truth that i dont have any clear idea about Hongkong people. I have never been interacting intensely with any of them. All that i have said is my recollection of what i have heard or what i have seen or what i have perceived. This may be right or this may be wrong for general society (for your info, i am not Hongkongnese). I dont know. Perhaps, you know ??

Yes, indeed, you do have to quote who said what and what even it's formal or informal. Another important thing is you must quote who said what and what in writing. It's a way to honor people's work. If you don't quote their names, you're stealing their work, and we call it plagiarism. Plagiarism is a crime in writing. Anyway, what I was asking you was if it was not yours, cite your work. And if it was yours, say it was yours. Don't throw people's work out without saying anything because people will think the work is yours. Give credits to those whom you have taken their work. Lastly, you are in an open discussion; therefore, you should take responsibility for your own work.

Come on.. be reasonable.. and use your common sense

Postby sky888walker » Mon Jun 27, 2005 10:17 am

Come on be reasonable, my dear friend.

For me it's not a plagiarism. I got this when i was chatting with my friends in a coffee shop months ago. Should i take note with whom i talked to everytime i met with any person. Did you remember whom you talked about several months ago. Again, it was neither based on a research nor based on any book. It was only based on her/his personal opinion and experience. I forgot completely who told me about that. I might not be able to remember.

If you told me that those are plagiarism, then what about other people who said here that they heard that from friends in a coffee shop / cafe / school / public area ?? What about opinion which has never registered as proprietary rights ?? Did you also accuse them as doing plagiarism ?? What about yourself ?? Should i seek in any writing which you have prepared that you did not quote specifically from others ?? Did you never do that ??

For me, if anyone want to quote my words, please do so.

Once again, come on, my dear friend, use your common sense and not just accuse anyone of doing plagiarism.

For you it's not plagiarism because I assume it's your habit to not credit other's works. Plagiarism happens when one doesn't give credit or cite where that person has taken the source from. It's not that hard to say, "I have heard...," "My friend said...," "I have read...," blah and blah a million of times or repeatedly if it's not something of your own. Conversely, you can't see that. Let me show you why you are plagiarsing.

This is one paragraph since you end it right there and go on with the one below it.

sky888walker wrote:Very tough life exists in HongKong.

This becomes your own opinion. If it's not yours then you've forgotten to cite your source.

sky888walker wrote:Hongkong people may always think about nothing other than money. They are also very concern about prestige and expensive stuffs. Again, this becomes your own opinion since this is a new paragraph and there is no source of who has said it.
Thus, you have said you know nothing about Hong Kong people in your last paragraph in your post; however, those opinions above seem to be yours, not your friend's. Tell me, are you plagiarising? Is it so hard to say, "my friend also said... blah and blah.." in your other paragraph? And is it so hard to say, "Someone I've talked at a coffee shop, I don't remember who said it, told me...." Is it?
And last, I am using my common sense to know that you're stealing other's works. Laziness is not an excuse to plagiarize. Or don't expect others to think that what you've said is not yours, but it's your friend's. How do people know it when you have never said so in other paragraphs??? Additionally, don't tell me what about others who do the same thing. If people jump off the bridge, would you do the same thing? Asking me for my common sense, but where is yours?
If you want to check my posts to see if I have cited my sources or not, you're welcome to do so. And if you can find one that I have not, I'm here to apologize I forgot to do that. It's not a big deal. It'll become a big deal when someone knows what he/she doing is wrong; however, that person keeps trying to make an excuse to make it look okay to do so.

Let me wrote again what you had written :
---------
For you it's not plagiarism because I assume it's your habit to not credit other's works.
---------

See what you said in BOLD. Now, let me wrote again what i had said in my opinion.
---------
Jasmine, I have not yet had any chance to meet or interact with any person coming from HongKong. However, i have heard from my other colleagues about HongKong people. They are bit rude and cold hearted....
---------

Did i mention that I HAD HEARD IT FROM MY OTHER COLLEAGUES ?? I HAVE SAID THAT IT IS NOT MY OWN OPINION. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU GAVE YOUR COMMENT.Please OPEN your EYES and READ.

=======
The following paragraph, I wrote:
Very tough life exists in HongKong.

AGAIN, i wrote this in ONE CONTEXT which i had started with I heard from my COLLEAGUES. Did I NOT say so ??

Also the following passage, that's still my colleague's opinion. Please use your brain and think about the following logic.
1. I have admitted directly that i had had no chance to interact with any HongKong people.
2. I have written : However, i have heard from my other colleagues about HongKong people.
3. Then i wrote everything I have heard from them.
4. I am closing my essay by asking Jasmine coz i really did not know about them.
5. DID I USE WORDS LIKE "IN MY OPINION... BLA BLA BLA" ??
6. I believe that you are not a 5 years old kid who can not follow this logic so that i thought i did not have to say "according to my friend.. " "according to my colleague.. " again and again. I thought that you were NOT that STUPID. I was wrong. I apologize.

This belongs to one context that i was trying to describe what I HAVE HEARD from OTHERS. How come someone who never interact with someone else can give his/her opinion ?? PLEASE once again read this very carefully:
"However, i have heard from my other colleagues about HongKong people. "

please read and use your BRAIN and THINK before you said something and insulted someone.
