MY ARTICLE ON THE NLE LEAKAGE SCANDAL LAST 2006

WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH…

It seems that all that PRC is doing right now is a charade. It released the board exam result for which they have kept us waiting for so long – results whose credibility can still hardly be established for the reason that the leakage fiddle has not yet been satisfactorily addressed and systematically investigated.

Should we be rejoicing now? Not quite! This happenstance is such a torment. Consider this: the PRC claimed in their statement in PDI, that to keep us waiting for undeterminably long time would be unfair, hence the release of the results. I am of the same mind yet I am bemused as to where this could lead us. The PRC released our names only to say later that the passer’s license could still be revoked if the NBI will find evidence of a leakage on our part.

They made us pleased for a moment then kept us hanging next. I am not reacting as I could be found guilty but because I wasn’t involved whatsoever in the bringing any leakage into play. I took the exams with all integrity but these is what they are doing to me and my new colleagues, which I guess is so unfair of them.

We were the reasons why some of our siblings stopped schooling, our lands leased, our treasures pawned. We sacrificed a lot just so we could attend review sessions and queued for long hours to file in the PRC. And these pitiless people just added to our burden? They’re not giving us the proper considerations and respect. They must be hiding something I supposed, but they eventually can not. Sometime in the future, these will be documented as an infamous segment of our history!

It appears that the PRC has been carrying out actions that are not at all rationally informed. They released the results while investigations is still pending, then how can it guarantee the credibility of such results without spelling out how the leaked questions were treated?

I was even surprised when I found out something from the coalition (organized here in Baguio by concerned nurses fighting for truth and justice about the leakage punters and their caprices) that many of the board topnotchers come from colleges facing imminent closure for poor performance in the board, and also many come from the review centers with evidenced leakage!

The BON explained however that they statistically and scientifically analyzed the overall effect of the leakage on the results of the board examination. They invalidated the whole of test V and removed 25 questions from the test 3. They have scored us in test V by computing the general weighted average of tests I, II, III and IV. How can we be sure then that our aptitude in that particular area of competency (which was psychiatric nursing) was measured justly if it was nullified?

The PRC’s, misleading actions have complicated the leakage scam. Its idleness and irresolution contribute to the crisis in which the nursing profession is presently situated. Now considering that our oath-taking is being postponed due to these incredible reasons!

We have given our best but our best is not enough. Not all made it and I empathize with the low spirits of our friends who weren’t able to hurdle the exams successfully. Our mentors and families have great expectations. I share with their feelings of lament. Just remember that on our hands rest the power of the future, let us assist each other in facilitating due process to indemnify those who suffered a lot and rectify the mistakes.

We honest people denounce the situation for tainting the integrity of the nursing profession, for stabbing the moral fiber of our profession, for shattering our education, for devastating our self-confidence, for placing us in unnecessary shame, and for halting the fulfillment of our innocent dreams.

We now know who to blame and in due time these leak punters will pay their debts double. We therefore move for the removal of these usurpers from their position and imprisonment of all the involved. We move for the closure or just the right punishment for their caprices. We move that PRC would have a tougher but honest regulating body and not a toothless and hapless one. We move however that all examinees should not be blamed for these faults done by these dishonest review centers because they might not have known that what they were utilizing as reference were leaked questions.

We hope and pray that God will be with us along the way to our search for truth and justice. Passers or not, we must all get involved. We should not allow same event to be happening anytime in the future. We have had enough!

To all my new colleagues, congratulations still...
