Have you had an American teacher in Europe?

Postby joedev1 » Sun Dec 18, 2005 10:00 am

Hi Everybody,

I am from New York, currently teaching in China. In the future, I would love to teach in Europe. I can speak French and a little Spanish, and hope to learn the language of my ancestors, Italian, in the future. I was just wondering how many of the students in Europe have had an American teachers. It seems most native-English speaking teachers in Europe are from the U.K.

Even if I cannot teach in Europe in the future, I would like to visit when I have the chance, so please tell me a little bit about your country!

Teacher Joe

Hi Joe,

I did have an American teacher in college. He taught a subject called American Civilization.

I studied English Philology and some of my professors were natives. Three or four were British, like you said, then I had the American teacher I mentioned and an Australian one. So not all of them were from the UK ;)

Native teachers have more work chances nowadays here in Europe. So if you have the opportunity, don't hesitate! ;)

Well, I do not know exaxtly about Europe. Actaully, I am staying England and go to a university. All the teachers are Briton. By the way, I am studying English in Japan. The name of the department is "World Englishes", this means that we should recognize many kinds of English, like American English, British English, Malay English, Indian English, Singapore English, and of course Japanese English! In my university, there are so many kinds of teachers, from the US, UK, India, Phillipine, Africa, and so on.

Hello,I don't know about Europe in general, but here in Italian secondary schools there are lots of native English speaking teachers and not all of them are from the U.K.. Last year for example I've had a teacher from Connecticut, so I don't think you'll have any problems to find a job here.

ps:I hope you'll enjoy learning Italian...you'll see, it's a great language! 8)
