Learning Russian in Russia

Postby Danyet » Wed Jul 25, 2007 7:14 am

Does anyone know of a good place or school to study Russian in Russia somewhere? Like an immersion course or something?

I can find plenty on the internet but I don't know which schools are good and which schools I should stay away from!

My husband studied Russian in St. Petersburg. He stayed there for 10 months. In addition to language classes, there also were cultural classes. After the completion of the course, he was very satisfied with the results. Now we speak Russian at home all the time. During that time in Russia, he also learned a great deal about Russian history, literature, art, traditions, and the Russian way of drinking and partying.

I’ll ask him the name of the school if you are interested

Yes please ask him about the name of this school. It sounds a lot like The same school that I have spoken with, The Derzhavin Institute in St Petersburg. I hope so because I am sending an application to this school and have to make arrangements soon.

It is a bit expensive though. I would prefer to just pay to live with a Russian person as a "home stay" for a few months and learn Russian on my own but I don't know anyone so far.

My husband studied Russian at St. Petersburg State University, but he told me to redirect you to http://www.masterrussian.com
They have a forum there, and many foreigners studying Russian hang out there. Some of them studied in Russia, others yet plan to go there, so they can definitely give you recommendations about some schools.
Good luck
