Yes, my avatars and signatures have political goals.

This one :

Ask me questions about :

- what is this flag ? the flag of one country : the Quebec !
- Quebec is a country ? Quebecers wants Quebec to become a country... cultures... quebecer language... music... sovereignty... cooking...

I only practice marketing for sovereignties and nature.

Canadian Culture

Postby juanalex » Mon Dec 04, 2006 5:47 pm

I am a Canadian living abroad. Canadian culture is very important. We enjoy hockey, beer, and other traditions. Our culture is similar to that of the United States but we are nicer.

PS....Canada doesn`t have a President, we have a Prime Minister.

My post is probably off topic, but I didn’t want to start a new thread.

Yesterday, my friends and I went to San Francisco for the celebration of Ukrainian Independence Day. There was a nice concert with singing and dancing. The group of young people dancing traditional Ukrainian dances did a really good job. It was awesome. After the concert, many people thanked them and took pictures with them. So did us. But when we began talking to them, it turned out they are not Ukrainians at all. They were Canadians whose grandparents or great grandparents were from Ukraine. Except for the traditional clothing in which they performed, there was nothing Ukrainian about these young people at all. I was kind of disappointed. But I was impressed that these Canadians danced like true Ukrainians.

Interesting! I once had a girlfriend from Canada, whom I knew very well, whose family is Ukrainian. They told me that, even until Peretroika they were afraid to return to Ukraine for fear of what Soviet Government may do with them and that their journey from Ukraine was more like an escape from Soviet Officials.

I read this and thought what the???? I would have thought that the "IRON CURTAIN" had been replaced in this day and age. I was very surprised to read that people still live in fear. Are you still in contact with this girl? Has she gone back home? I just think it is dreadful that citizens of a country live in fear like this. I thought we had grown as a race (human). I thought that communism had become more flexible with the inclusion of various western culture into the mainstream. I am shocked!!!

Actually Shazzam this was before the end of the Soviets. I would imagine that her family could go back now. We remained close friends even after we parted but I haven't seen her in many years. I often think of her.
