That just a guy I was working with. The knot is an old Spanish Vaquero tradition that is used still in Nevada and Oregon. Some say it signifies the boss and others say it is just to keep the tail out of the mud or foul weather.

The horse's boss or they can't tell which one is the boss, the horse or the guy who drives it, and that's why they have to tie the horse's tail?
