Arrest of Bloggers

Postby Danyet » Fri Mar 23, 2007 5:34 pm

Freedom of speech is not protected everywhere so be careful traveling to places like Egypt. The bloggers are under attack there for advocating democracy on their websites. In Washington, U.S. State Department criticized the verdict, telling reporters that Washington was "very concerned" about Suleiman's conviction and sentencing and regarded freedom of speech as a basic human right.

The Paris-based press freedom organization Reporters Without Borders said the sentence was "a disgrace" and the United Nations should respond by disqualifying Egypt from hosting an Internet Governance Forum in 2009.

One guy got 4 years imposed on him last month. Read the article to find out what he said.

The States is not any better. Remember that story the reporter made an article about no nuclear weapons in Iraq, and they blew his wife's identity? They put his whole family in danger. :x

That was not the same thing. Her cover was blown by just one guy who has a history of blowing covers. It was not a government policy like it is in Egypt.
