Welcome To English Club Mexico

Postby mexico » Sat Aug 17, 2002 2:55 am

Welcome to English Club Mexico! A site for all English language learners and teachers in Mexico.

First of all, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mathew Ridyard and I came to Mexico 4 years ago as a teacher of English. I became interested in language learning on the internet and developed a software called StudySaint. Through this software and the project I was involved in, I met Josef Essberger, a rather eccentric and brilliant 'young' (Well you know :-) ) man from Cambridge UK.

Josef, is responsible, 100%, for the incomparable EnglishClub.com. The site which all English language learners love. Why? Because it isn't begging you for dollars everywhere you turn, it is a real language resource, it is a labour of love. You don't believe me?

Go visit the pages today. Have a look around. All of this has been created by one guy. All of this magic, free, beautiful information, presented with charm and style, has been supplied by Josef 'does this man ever sleep' Essberger, for people like you. You can't find a better service. I know. It doesn't exist.

I personally have the upmost admiration for the person who has done the most for English languauge learning on the web. This is Josef.

So, after many hours chatting with Josef on the internet - him in Thailand, and me in Mexico - we met up in a train station one Christmas in London, England, found a bar, and had a few drinks. We got on like a house on fire, and the result of this meeting was the idea of forming EnglishClub World, and for me, the next day, a not too small headache!

Englishclub World is a little piece of EnglishClub at a local level. A place where, in our case, Mexican English Language learners, English schools and English Teachers can get together, and, a way that Englishclub can come closer to us. It is that simple.

So here we are. And, as you can see, Josef wasted no time in making me the editor of the Mexico pages:-) ( Thanks JO)

Ok, Mexico, here is what we are going to do together. Now, read this carefully:

We are going to make this site rock!

How:?

We share information. What information you ask?

Simple! What ever happens in terms of language learning/teaching in Mexico, we share on these pages.

So don't be shy, if you want to know something, need some help, or have some special tips of interest to us all, this is the place to make yourself heard.

Amigos, come on! Lets be hearing from you. Even if it is just to say hello and support the page. Post your messages and let's get this site going.

I promise to make it bigger and better all the time, so keep coming back and check what we are doing:-) Ok?

I am here at your disposal, just mail me. My name is Mathew and I will be here at English Club Mexico!

Come on Mexico, I have great faith in what we can achieve together:-)

Mat is very kind but he sometimes gets carried away with his enthusiasm. :roll Although I started English Club and produce most of its static content alone, it wouldn't be fair to overlook the tremendous support we've all had from two special groups of people: the Help Desk Teachers, who tirelessly answer questions on grammar, vocabulary and so on, and the Country Editors who look after the country sites. So thanks, Mat, for your eulogy, but let's give credit where credit's due, including to Mat himself whose ideas, input and support encouraged me to start English Club World.

With best wishes to all...
