Learning Chinese & teaching English in Argentina

Postby MariaC » Fri Aug 19, 2005 3:37 pm

Hi, I recently took a TEFL course in Buenos Aires, Argentina and to my suprise, was offered the chance to take Chinese. I was pretty much like, "Chinese?, I came here to learn Spanish, but maybe I can learn both." So that is what I am doing.

The main reason that I posted this was because I thought it was pretty cool that I came to do an English teacher training course, only to be offered other languages like Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, etc. with essential guidance from the trainers and other locals I met through the program. I would suggest looking at all your options regarding a language course or TEFL course in Buenos Aires, and choosing the one designed to help you out the most. Some offer CHINESE and local personality, and some offer you a corporate business model they brought from abroad. Go with the locals if you want a true latin experience. You will learn more about the culture you are training in and besides you might pick up a little something on the side, like how to order dim sung whilst learning how to teach with new friends. :) Anyone can email me if they need more information on a course, or argentina- I'm moving to kuwait in 5 mos, but until then -please write. -Maria

The course I took is called http://TEFLocal.com. I liked the fact that all the trainers were under 40 and would have fun with us. We actually taught English to a staff at a local restaurant one Friday. The course was diverse, encompassing, and down to earth.

All in all- Pretty fun... As far as the foriegn language bit, they sent me where I needed to go and were great about that. i'm actually from Argentina but haven't lived here in a while and needed to make money while I was in school. I got a reduced rate because I'm a local. i don't know if you qualify because of MERCOSUR or not... sorry! I would call them, they are fun- god the bowling night!!!

Anyway, it's a good course if you are ready for local immersion and TEFL certification. If not, it's not for you. What's cool too is that you get TESOL certification from Cambridge and so when you walk into an interview you feel confident that, A, you are qualified and, B, you know the Argentine culture :) Pretty Neat. Take care and email me back if you want more details. I'm not sure if I answered what you needed. It was a 4 week course and now I'm continuing to live and work in BA until my move to the Middle East to make more money in about 5 months. I already have a contract there. chau chau.
