Cypress wrote:I really liked the pictures; I spend almost an hour watching those albums. I especially liked the people because for me it is very interesting to find out more about people of different countries. Not the celebrities and all those beautiful miss universes, but just ordinary people. What do they look like? What are young people like? And what are older people like? What are their houses like? Not the expansive mansions, but the houses of ordinary people. How do they celebrate their holidays: weddings, New Year, etc?
And I have a few questions about Venezuela.
First, what does the word Venezuela mean? I have always thought that it is a very beautiful name and it must mean something.
My other question is similar to the Danyet’s one, but I’m not joking. Is there coffee? I mean is coffee grown in Venezuela? I know that in many Latin American countries it is, but I was thinking that the climate is probably very different from the climate in Brazil, for example.
And also I would like to find out more about holidays in Venezuela. The ones that are unique for this country

Well I think that Oriani gave you a very good portrail about our country... nevertheless, I´ll try to complet what she'd said...
Regarding your first question, well I can't tell you what we look like because we are the product of a very long mixed-race process.. At the beginning, When Spanish arrived to Venezuela, they mixed with natives and originated a race that was called "mestizos".. Then, when the spanish started to bring slaves from africa, they mixed with whites people (they were called "Mulatos") and native people (they were called "Zambos")... From that moment, we've been mixing among us, so that's it´s imposible to tell what we look like..
Well, It´s difficult to tell you what our youth or older people like because depends on the personality of the person... But let me tell you this: there are 2 characteristic you can find in all venezuelans (young and old): We are very friendly and happy people... In fact, according to a research made by a British firm, we are, with costa rica, the happier country in latin america.....

..
Regarding our houses, well, considering we are a underdeveloped country, you can find very beautiful houses as well as very poor ones, that we call "ranchos". They are usually made of wood and zinc roof.... Also that depends on if you are in the countryside or in the city... Anyway, I´ll try to post pictures of those and post them here....
Well, We celebrate weddings as everyone does, I mean, The groom and the bride organize a big party where all their friends and family gather to celebrate with them... Regarding New Year, well that is a different story... Usually, the family (uncles, aunt, cousins, grand's, etc) gather in one place and organize a big dinner party to wait the new year... also we believe in many superstitions to get whatever you want during the year to come and that's why we do many things, such as, eat 12 grapes at midnight to bring good luck... or put 12 lentils on a bill, then you wrap that bill and keep it in your wallet all year long. This is made to earn tons of money, etc...
I can keep writing and writing but I´ll post a thread to anwser all your questions....
