Now, onto another topic, the trouble in this whole american thing, there's a problem in Spanish, it's spreading... have you gone to a "Ropa Americana"? (place were they sell clothing from the US) now, that's a problem... isn't it? I know it's long to say "estadounidense" but it's the right thing...

Dear friend, don´t worry about it. More than 10 people in this forum understand what you mean with the bad ubication of the word "american".
In good spanish to say "american" to clothes, pets, or whatever from USA is a sinonim of bad quality because all this productos are from China, Hong Kong, etc. The countries of the Asia-Pacifi Treat. They are not really produce at USA.

About the word you never say "Ignorant", don´t pay attention in that and you should not be worry. All here know how Lenny express her thougtness and how she likes to complicate the discussions.

American (noun) someone from the US

ERPS, I understand your point. Yet, it is the way it is, and there is not much you can do about it. There is one thing you can do, however. You can contact the institutuition responsible for regulating the English language and persuade them to change it. I don’t know the name of this institution, but you can find out. You know, like the Royal Spanish Academy in Madrid is regulating the Spanish language, there is got to be some kind of institution regulating English. If this issue really bothers you, find out about this institution and write them a letter.

I've searched about that, and it seems as it doesn't exist at all... if you check about that, you'll notice that most dictionaries came from Universities, that's why it is hard to get any real changes, besides, they feel so proud in the US of being called americans so they won't listen. My concerns are mainly what this type of wrong word usage does to Spanish (not that the whole english part of this is secondary) ... you see latin news and already they use American to refer to the US citizens, meaning, we're practically surrendering our right as Americans too...
