OPERA HOUSE SYDNEY AUSTRALIA

Postby Shazzam » Mon Jun 06, 2005 12:06 am

Hi i have a little bit of information for you on the Sydney Opera House.

The Opera House was designed by Architect Jorn Utzon the building was completed in 1973 (construction started in March 1959). Utzon won a competition to become the architect for the Opera House. The Opera House is situated at Bennelong Point, Sydney. Bennelong Point was named after the first Aborigine to speak english.

There is quite a bit of information on web-sites in connection with the Opera House and other Theatres in Sydney including the Capital Theatre. There are also many historical Theatres (like her Majesty's) in Melbourne.

Hope this helps you with you quest! :)

I was once given a personal guided tour of the Opera House by the staff. It was quite impressive really especially for someone who had always thought of it as a rediculous idea in the first place.

Why did you think it was a ridiculous idea in the first place? Just curious; I'm sure many famous Opera Houses have unique designs.

It was over the news at the time the place was first finished that the auditoriums were too small. But when I actually had a look see for myself I found them to be bigger that they look from the outside. I also thought that the overall shape was extravagant but once inside it seemed like it would be quite suitable for a performance. I have been in many halls since and I now see the error of my ways. :)

I am a very proud mother this month. My daughter has been doing ballet since she was 4 years old. This year her end of year concert will be held at the Civic Theatre, which is the equivalent of the Sydney Opera House in the City that I live in.

It is such a beautiful old theatre with the side boxes and beautiful architecture. I'm going there to watch her dance but I'm so thrilled that she is going to experience this beautiful theatre.

One happy Mummy! 8) :D

Lucky mum! compared to you, I am a sad mum. My daughter just can't stand her dancing class! and she finally quitted it half a year ago!

At the beginning, my mum told me:"just send YY to a Dancing class, let her practise dancing skills one hour a day. then she will become a gentlewoman in the future. As for you, sigh...I feel regretful...I never sent you to any dancing class, I just forced you to read...therefore you never dance. that's not good for girls"

Listenning to my mum, I sent my daughter to a dancing class, after she came home from her dancing class, she blamed on me:"why should I allow those teachers to press my thighs?? it hurt so much!! and I couldn't bend so long!!" Finally, she gave up.

maybe she is like her mum who never like dancing stuff

If she does not like dance. Try her in martial arts instead. This is good for building confidence in a girl or boy. Aikido would be good at her age.
