We have some very fine actors in Australia that started their careers on Australian television, for example: Mel Gibson, Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Guy Pierce, Heath Ledger, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Sam Neil just to name a few.

When I look back at some of the older programs and realise it is them; it astounds me that the whole world pretty much knows who they are now.

I'm learning with you, I always watch movies with Mel Gibson and specially a beautiful woman Nicole Kidman (I love her).
I fell curious about the Australian life style. Something can tell me?

Why are you  Dixie. Technically Mel Gibson was born in Hawaii (i think) but lived his whole life basically in Australia and calls himself an Australian. Why do you know something I don't?

We claim them as Australians because they claim they are Aussies. :D

I just thought Gibson was either American or Scottish, and I was sure that Geoffrey Rush was English! :D Didn't know about Cate Blanchett, though.

So they are Australians...

Did you know that Errol Flynn was an Australian too (he is an actor that was very famous in the 40's and 50's). He was born in Tasmania.

We have some really great Australian actors personally I love Geoffrey Rush he is fantastic. Our movie industry isn't as good as it should be that is why they all go to America to make films; most come back afterwards. 8)

Do you know who Rory Calhoun was? His last wife is an Aussie. Rory is of the same era as Errol Flynn. Rory, before he died used to tell me stories of Hollywood in the early days. I remember one really funny one that was about Errol Flynn. Do a google on his name.

Also there are other Aussie actors in hollywood right now but not so well known. Cameron Daddo was here a few years back. He faked an American accent in order to get his first big job in hollywood. They had no idea that he was an Aussie when they hired him.
Another actor I know is Costas Mandylor, an Aussie of Greek background. You can google his name also.

That guy in Xmen is Australian, too. I've been watching Australia's next top model and I have to say yours is better than the American's.
