Why does everyone want to go to University in Australia?

I used to work at Newcastle University (NSW Australia). I noticed whilst I was working there that a large number of the students were not living in Australia.

What is it about Australian Universities that are so appealing to students from other countries?

I would have thought the living and travel expenses would have been too much?

Its good though, I'm so glad that people want to come here to learn. I am justed interested to find out what the appeal is, as I'm sure there are great Universities in other Countries.
