Think about it. What if we were talking about pit-bulls? What if someone put pit-bulls near a park and some kid got bitten?

These people had a responsibility here!

This is a whole other situation. Firstly, was the dog on leash? Was it in the playground area where the sign says "no animal is allowed in this area"? Was it being threatened? Those questions must be considered first before charging those people for their animal's behavior.

I must admit I don't understand why those fishermen didn't take the white pointers way out to sea if they are going to let them go. I agree! Why put them back into the water on a surfing beach 100 metres from where people are swimming! They should be luring them away from swimmers not heading them towards them.

An update on the fishermen at Stockton Beach.

During the course of last week the fishermen that I mentioned in my previous posts were fined and told to stop their activities on Stockton Beach (with the Great White Sharks).

Local government authorites were concerned about the safety of the fisherman and also the fact that they were luring these monsters in by feeding them salmon off their surfboard (morons!!!!).

I am amazed that they weren't concerned about the sharks. Usually this is what happens!

They're back!

Life savers yesterday had to chase of a couple of sharks. Their fins were seen 200 metres from the beach at Tamarama Beach in Sydney. Damn things! Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water.  It is strange for sharks to be so close to the shore at this time of year as the water temperature is very warm at about 21 degrees. They generally like the colder water.

I would like to know just exactly where these shark proof nets are. I have scuba dived at Tamarama and Bondi before and never seen a net there.

I think they disintegrated many, many years ago. From what I have heard on beaches where there is some semblence of a shark net the holes in them are so big that a group could go through them. The greenies hate them because dolphins, turtles etc get caught in them. So; government doesn't spend the money repairing or replacing them. Funny how they listen to the greenies when it comes to them having to spend money to fix a problem.

OMG aren't they the most fiercesome looking monsters! Great websites Danyet.

Divers make me crazy though. Why on earth are you going to go into areas that are well known for sharks to get scallops and abalone. It is documented for gods sake and they still do it.

The stories that worry me the most are the story of attacks happening on patrolled beaches. Admittedly from what I read most of these take place overseas, from what I have witnessed in Australia our life-guards are very efficient. I have been on beaches were a group of hammerheads came in a little too close. My sons and myself were in the surf. We left the water and the life guards chased them off on surfskis. You don't here of any attacks on patrolled beaches on the East Coast. Thank god!

That doesn't mean that i'm not watchful though. If there is a heap of fish in the water I tend to take that as a sign that it might not be a great idea for a swim in that area. You just need to use your commonsense I suppose.

There are also some other simple rules; don't go into the water after dusk. That is when the things feed.

There are also well known breeding grounds for bull sharks in Sydney, the Parramatta River being one of them. The spit and Lane Cove River. Don't swim there!

I have read both sites now Danyet. They are both really interesting. I didn't know that there were contractors with 'mobile nets'. You see you have taught me something new.

I had to laugh though the thought of a Port Jackson being even classified as a shark. The being 'gummed to death' theory.  The same thing with 'grey nurse'. When I was growing up around Fairlight they were in adbundance in Sydney Harbour but because of their threatening looks people assumed that they must be man eaters. They aren't. I don't think they have the bite down capacity and have been known to be a very placid shark (they are more scared of us).

It's the Great Whites, Tigers and Bull sharks that worry me. Fine if they live miles out to sea but not 100 metres from where we swim.

The news this morning a 21 year old woman was fatally attacked off North Stradboke Island - Queensland, yesterday.

Not again, another terrible start to the swimming season.
