The Great Aussie BBQ!

Postby Shazzam » Wed Oct 12, 2005 4:45 am

In Australia (especially during the summer months) we tend to cook and eat outside (whilst fighting off the flies). You don't see a fly all winter and as soon as the weather warms up; out they come.

I was thinking about it the other night and although over the years Australians have absorbed alot of other cultures in their cooking; I'll bet there wouldn't be a bbq in Australia that doesn't have a good old 'snag' on it (sausages).

I believe that the good old sausage will always be a favorite in Australia on the bbq.

What are you favorites on the bbq?

Do you bbq?

Not really, although we have a barbeque set in my summerplace. When we bbq, it's mostly meat like chops and stuff like that.

I'd love to be in one of those Aussie bbqs :D

Do you use vegetables on your bbq's dixie, we make potato chips on ours and toasted bread it is so yum. We have started cooking Sunday breakfasts outside you can cook everything on it; eggs, bacon, potato, toast and when I feel like it corn fritters. No mess and you can just vege in the sun when you have finished. BLISS! 8)

Next time you do a bbq; try some capsicum (remove the skin after you have cooked it) some onion, potato, capsicum , pretty much any vegetable you can think of, they all taste great. We have started to bbq whole corn on the cob they are so yummy; just put them in some alfoil (wrap them up) and put them on the bbq...YUMMMOOOOO! 8) 8)

At last a new recipe for the bbq.

We are starting to eat more fish (which is a good thing). My husband LOVES Barramundi! I found a way to cook the fillets on the bbq; you wrap it up in banana leaves and then put it over the coals.

Has anyone tried Barramundi :?: It is a very popular fish in Australia (mostly found in the Northern Territory). 8)

Ah!! Dixie you should have been here tonight! We had marinated roast chicken, potatoes, sweet potatoe, pumpkin and brocoli in lemon sauce. FOLLOWED by home made apple and custard pies with Icecream.

All that and I had to have a salad!! POOP!

But hey it will be well worth it and my family loves it, plus I love to cook!

Sharon, if you don't stop writing, you'll have to give hospitality to all EC members (all together!) for your next bbq! :D :D

BTW, I have never tried vegetables, potatoes, capsicums, etc. on a bbq. We just have meat and slices of bread to be used as a starter with some salt and olive oil on it.

We have the bread too! You should try vegetables on the bbq they are really nice and easy too. No washing up. :D You can do anything on there even eggplant if you are careful and don't cook it too long. I'm really starting to get into it. It is so much easier than pots and pans and its fun cooking outside. 8)
