Fuel prices could hit $5.00 per litre.

Opposition leader Kim Beasley has reportedly made comments this week to the media that Australians could be looking at fuel prices hitting $5.00 per litre.

At the moment in Australia fuel prices are around the $1.40 mark. This is really hitting families. Alot of families are just not able to met the rising fuel costs. This time last year fuel was about 91 cents a litre.

You have to wonder why the prices have gone so high; when you consider US forces are in control of one of the main supply countries?

Since I wrote this thread the fuel prices in Australia have dropped from $1.42 a litre (at their highest) to $1.17 per litre. Have fuel prices gone down everywhere?

Lucky you! Our gas price is still two dollars something. I doubt it would go down to a dollar something. Man, again I must say, I miss those days-- the days that one could be able to afford gas and food  . By the way, I've made a chart, U.S's economy goes up, Bush's goes down. U.S's economy goes down, Bush's goes up. I would love to see Bush staying low to the ground. Heck, I wanted him out of the office early this year. I doubt Santa would give me that present even though and even though, I've been a good girl all year  .

That's because the US pays by the gallon. When Katrina hit, our gas prices were in the 1.15/litre range for Alberta, my province. Aside from the Territories, Alberta has the lowest gas prices in Canada. Now it's at 0.80/litre.

Actually, at the current exchange rate, AUD 1.47/litre is the same as USD 4.07/gallon.

Yup, first you multiply $1.47 by 3.78 - gallon to litre = AUD/gallon. Then convert it. Yes, it's a ridiculous price.

Oh now I get it. Thanks. I read liters, but in my mind I was thinking of gallons. Thus, I thought 1.47 per liter (thinking gallon and in US dollar here) wasn't so bad  . Now I know what Danyet was talking about...
