I realised tonight that no many people probably no much about the good old aussie EMU. These birds (that don't fly) have a very close resemblence to an ostrich but not as large. There eggs are huge (and they are the most beautiful green). There eggs are collected and used for art purposes. I have seen some done by artists and they are quite beautiful.
I have come across Emu's quite a few times and they are quite aggressive. I wouldn't like to try and make friends with one; I think they could give you a pretty nasty peck!
For anyone out there that is planning to say hello to an EMU anytime soon. Here is a warning "they aren't friendly".
I have been chased and pecked by Emu's quite a few times in my life. Even as a child! They are nasty birds. So far I have been able to fend them off; but I have to admit if they had managed to kick me with those huge legs I think you would hit the ground!
So not only are they ugly on the outside; they are ugly on the inside too.
