We should kick out and close the Singapore Embassies for this.

Thirteen minutes ago at 9am (ADST) Nguyen Tuong Van was hung at Changi prison. No more than two people at a time were allowed to place candles outside the prison as apparently in Singapore you have to have a permit to have a gathering of five people. I'm so glad I don't live there. Don't Singaporians realise that they are living in a police state :?:

The church that Nguyen and his twin brother attended tolled the bells 25 times at 9am as a symbol of his life.

I hope the World applies pressure on Singapore to stop this barbaric action. The Australian Government in my opinion didn't do enough to have this young man extradited back to Australia. John Howard is a frightened little man. He is too concerned of stirring the pot. He has obviously forgotten how many young Australians were dealt with the same way in Changi prison during the second world war.

The family will fly out of Singapore tonight (Saturday) with Nguyen's body. There is a funeral planned for next week in Melbourne in the Catholic Church that his family attended. Apparently he planned most of the service with his priest. I'm still so sad over these events. I'm not really sure why? I think it is just that he was such a young man and I feel that the death penalty just didn't fit the crime. It has been a very emotional week; especially for his mother. My heart goes out to her at this time. :(

Letters written by Nguyen Tuong Van are going to be released for public information. I'm not too sure about this idea; however I think that his family and solicitor think it will help their cause in connection with plea for hanging to stop in Singapore.

This is the first time and hopefully the last time that I will do this. But I have decided as a mark of respect to the deceased that it is appropriate to lock this thread. I think we have covered most of the areas that needed to be covered. It is time to let this young man and his family have some peace.

I hope everyone understands why I have locked this thread.

It is just a mark of respect for a young persons sole; regardless of their guilt or innocence.

Rest in peace.
