Swim between the FLAGS.

Postby Shazzam » Tue Dec 06, 2005 2:13 am

In Australia we have alot of tourists each year. From what I have been told alot of people from overseas don't understand why there are flags on our beaches.

Do you?

The reason is:

The life-savers go onto the beach every morning and pick the safest area for people to swim (no rips, etc). Then they place two flags on the beach, you should only swim between these flags when you see them on the beach, as this is the safest place to swim. Outside the flags is usually dangerous and or/ designated for surfers.

If overseas travellers were advised this before they came to Australia I think it would save lives.

Thats a good idea too. Are they easy to see though. The flags really stand out on the beach as they are about 20 foot tall. Is it easy to tell where it is safe to swim in your country?

I know that this is a strange thing to say but I don't know much about your country and I am amazed that you have surf there

Yeah and what do the babes on the beach wear.....27 yards of heavey cotton?

Hey Shazzam,
The flagss don't nessecarily mean the safest spot on the beach. They mean "swim at your own risk outside the flags because the lifesaver wont bother to watch the rest of the beach as well". Oh and also, "Keep your flamin' surfboards out of here. Can't you see there are little kids here?"
