The Great Barrier Reef.

Postby Shazzam » Wed Dec 07, 2005 11:10 am

I have a friend that has just come back from the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland. She snorkeled around the reef with her husband and child and said "if she died tommorro she has lived." Apparently it is that amazing. I have seen photos of the Reef but I have never had the opportunity to see it.

Maybe this will inspire some people to find some websites to check this amazing place out.

Anyone that has seen the Reef please share your experience. I would love to hear about it. 8)

I am very interested is the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, however, airfare for me to Australia is quite expensive. Oh, and plus I can't swim. If I were to visit Australia, it would be Queensland for sure. Not only for the reef but for the bikini meter maids as well.

  You would need to go the 'Surfers Paradise' for the meter maids in the gold bikinis.  You will have to save your money and learn how to swim you would love to snorkel the reef. 8)

Yeah, having my photo taken with the meter maids is high on my list of things to do. As for swimmimng, I will have to wait until I purchase my house with an indoor swimming pool to learn. That shouldn't be too long now...

I don't understand, since you live in Aussie land, why don't you take advantage of what you have? Dive the reefs and take photos. That will give me more of an incentive.

  'Aussieland' is a mighty big place Unknownsu. The Great Barrier Reef is approximately 1,500 kilometres from where I live, so it isn't exactly a day trip. You would have to go there for a holiday. One day I will get there. I don't know about the diving but I would definately have a snorkel around the reefs. By car it would take us approximately 2 days to get there.

I have relatives that come from Ireland they came to Australia five years ago to see us. My uncle said to me one day "could we take a trip to see Ayers Rock?" I told him the only way he could do that would be to fly there. He had no idea how vast this continent is. :!:

I am well aware of how big the land down under is. But remember where I hail from. I used to travel to the city I was raised in for a weekend every now and then and that is approximately 1350kms east of where I am now. And it took, on average, 12hrs. I don't understand how it could take 2 days to drive 1500kms. What's the speed limit down there?

It isn't just the drive you have to go to the reef by boat. I would only travel 700kms a day because I have children. That is why it would take so long. Single people could probably do it in 17-20 hours.

Most of the areas you go through to get to the Reef (cities) are highly populated so the speed limits are usually about 60kms an hour.
