Days after Kerry Packer's death there have been many media releases about his charity contributions this one amazed me.
Mr Packer suffered a massive heart attack about 12 years ago whilst attending a polo match. The NSW Ambulance service had to revive him at the match and get him to hospital (they saved his life).
After his recovery he found out that not every ambulance in NSW had defibulators, so he rang the then NSW Premier (Nick Greiner) and said "I have been told that it would cost approximately AUSD $5,000,000.00 to have every ambulance equipped with a defibulator, so how about we go halves?"
He made that donation and now every ambulance in NSW is fitted with one of these life saving devices.
The funny thing is they are now named by the ambulance drivers "
PACKER WHACKERS".
I just love this story.
