Some dogs I hate, too.

This story I really did not want to post. I can't handle tradgic stories involving children but I think that we all should take a look at the idea that some poeple think it is cool to own vicious dogs. I don't like vicious dogs under any circumstances. Not even police dogs. Australia recently passed a law against owning certain vicious breeds of dogs. I think that is great!

Family distraught after dog attack

THE distraught family of a two-year-old girl mauled to death by their farm dog are "not coping too well", police said today.

The toddler died yesterday after being bitten on the neck by the dingo cross-breed on their farm at Nullica, near Eden, on the New South Wales south coast.
The child was playing outside and wandered up to the dog chained to a kennel some 45m from the house.

Bega Police Inspector Shane Box said the animal, which was destroyed by the girl's grandfather, was a family-owned working dog, not a pet.

The vicious attack had left the family, including the girl's brother, distraught, he said.

"They're not coping too well ... it's a tragic accident," Insp Box said.

"It's just a tragic accident that the child has walked over to where the dog was tied up."
The breed was not among those outlawed earlier this year by the NSW Government, which banned the breeding, sale or giving away of pitbull terriers and other dogs.

NSW Local Government Minister Kerry Hickey said the Government would await the results of police investigations before deciding whether the attack warranted the introduction of further dog ownership laws.

Ambulance officers found the young girl unconscious when they arrived at the home yesterday.

This has been on the news here all day. It is so tragic. I am so glad the laws went through about banning these horrible dogs. Who would want to own a killer like this?

Do you know who owned the dog? I haven't heard anything about that, just that the dog was shot.

How horrible for the little girls family. Can you imagine the heartbreak of spending christmas day with your child opening presents etc then having to spend the next couple of days packing it all away forever.

The article in Danyet's post said that the dog was tied somewhere and the little girl was wandering near him. It was an accident, but still....... :x

I must admit I have only seen glimpses of this coverage, it was so depressing I didn't watch the whole thing. I know that the dog was half dingo. They have to stop this type of breeding, dingo's are wild dogs that live in the outback. They have just about taken over Fraser Island and people there are getting attacked all the time, as the dogs look for food.

It is a terrible story. Today here at my country take place a similar story, but the boy in this case don´t die. People must to be carefull whith the relation between animals and children, even if the animal is a little bird, cat, dog, dug, etc. Animals could be dangerous in the human enviroment because of the differences of habitats.

Very true Elba. I have a little dog and she is lovely and great with kids, but I don't know how she would go if someone hurt her, I think her natural response would be to bite. That is why when we have friends with little children we put her away unless we are outside with her. As I said she is only small but some smaller children are intimidated by her and she could knock them over easily, just playing, but it could happen. :!:
