Aussie Teenagers are addicted to MSN !

Postby Shazzam » Sun Jun 04, 2006 10:51 pm

I have noticed that so many of my friends children (teenagers and younger) can sit on MSN Messenger from early morning to late night just chatting with people. My daughter uses it too but I police how long she is on for and how much of it is time wasting. I'm surprised that more parents don't do this. I don't think it is healthy for kids to spend so much time with silly chat. Most of it is just sending funny icons back and forth; and abbreviating words, so overall their spelling ends up being shocking. I would be interested to see what other EC members think about MSN Messenger for teenagers.

That doesn't happen only in Australia, I guess. More and more teens spend more time online than with relatives or friends in real life. I also wonder why their parents don't do something, Sharon. Those kids should spend more time outside, living their lives and not wasting them in front of their computer! How can they be online from morning to night without getting bored eventually? Also, they're gonna have to face some problems, i.e. spelling mistakes (that also happens with cellphones and the way their type their text messages, they are hard for me to understand, you have to have a very good imagination skill to get what they mean. But that's another subject). I think there should be a schedule, for example no more than 1 or 2 hours online a day.
