Water shortage in Australia is making people drink sewerage!

Postby Shazzam » Mon Mar 05, 2007 10:27 am

The Queensland government in Australia was the first to suggest that due to water shortages Australians should consider drinking recycled sewerage. I suppose if you were desperate enough you would. What angers me is that we send millions and millions of dollars a year to countries that suffer from draught to help them build wells etc (for fresh drinking water) and now they are asking me to drink my own poo...I don't think so!!

In NSW they are suggesting de-salination (which personally I think we should have done decades ago) or alternatively the same as QLD (I don't think so). Of course you would drink it if you had to, but lets weight this up.

The stupidity is where Dams have been built over the last 100 years in Australia (centrally) because value of land is worth nothing there; thing is there is little rain fall (DOH!!).

Well I don't know I'm starting to think that Ethiopia is looking good, maybe the Aussie dollar is doing well there and I can drink clean water from a well.

I don't know if it is true.I have been in Australia for about one month. But i know it is very dry in AU. and i have thought a lot of ways to save water.
use the recycle-water of my house ,such as , water my plants with the water which was used in washing vegetables.
after using water,I must make it confirmed that the pipe has been closed.I always try my best not to waste a drop of water.
I think not only people in AU should save water, but also all over the world should do.

There is no REAL water shortage in Australia. The problem is ENTIRELY man made. Too many people have gone there to live and NOW we have problems. Every school boy and girl in Australia was taught that their country is the driest on Earth. Australians have only themselves to blame for the short sightedness. Thank you all, for ruining my country while I was away.

OK mr Love. I meant to say driest "continent on Earth" and not "country". We have very few rivers that are of any real size.

The word disappointment springs to mind! When I read your post Danyet I thought my god this is a man that lived in this country. Immigration has nothing to do with Australias climate or the inability of government to take rainfall into consideration when plotting out appropriate space for dams. You really should drink some of the stuff that they are suggesting because you seem to be able to talk it!!!!

Our lecturer says that stationary stocks of fresh water
amounted (or amounting ) about 0.3 percent from the volume of hydrosphere. And says that stocks of fresh water is updating every 12 days. I don't think you should worry about that.

Shazzam, When I lived in Australia there were 11 million people and we had just enough water. Now the population has almost DOUBLED. That would be like the USA going from 300 million to 600 million by adding 300 million immigrants. No country can support that type of change. Now they want to dig dams and flood the land. Whose is first to volunteer their home for these projects? Which animals want to drown for these projects? This is all about big money in the guise of immigration.

There are easier ways and population growth isn't all about immigration policy. To begin with the Govt has been offering aussie families money to go out and multiply so to speak. There are huge water supplies in Australia (none have been looked into) for example in most regional areas they use bore water for watering etc. City dwellers don't do this. Water conservation would have been a great start i.e. rain water tanks. Every house in Australia should have one no matter where they are. Grey water!! Another issue.
It is naive to blame everything on population growth it is about grey matter growth. You see a problem and you look for ways of fixing it. Not waiting until it is too late then suggesting the current proposals.
