Too Hot to Handle

New postby TalkingPoint » Sat Oct 31, 2009 8:38 am

"One person’s meat is another person’s poison."
Either all topics are controversial or none are.

Discuss.

Wordchecker
meat: food
poison: something that you eat or drink that can kill you or make you ill
topic: subject for discussion
controversial: likely to cause public disagreement or argument

"One person’s meat is another person’s poison"
This English saying (usually "One man’s meat is another man’s poison") means something like "What one person considers good, another person considers bad" or "I may love something and you may hate the same thing."

Hi all.
the saying is true. As each and every thing in this world has its negative and positive effects. So it is on the person to choose according to his/her nature and live life. If person wants to live joyful life, then person should choose positively good things.

The saying seems to belabor the obvious. It
is a universal truth that what one person
may consider good, the other person may
consider bad, and vice versa. For instance,
it may be good for one religion to perform
human sacrifice where its adherents are
burned alive, and for the other religion,
such sacrifice might be considered as
totally abominable or inhuman.

But, taken in another context, such human anaphorism should not be an
excuse towards "irreconcilable differences,"
unending conflicts, discrimination,
intolerance towards other cultures, snobbery, and even
hostility.

Our present age calls for human tolerance,
understanding, diplomacy, and/or what others
term as"globalization," that should not be
interfered with by such minor/major
differences in beliefs. Our present age
shuns barbarity and racial supremacy of one
race over another. This is the age of
equality, brotherhood, greater enlightenment
and diplomacy.

Such human anaphorism does not give anyone
the license to impose his/her belief(s) on
anyone he/she may consider as inferior, as
anyone who considers himself/herself as
irrationally superior towards another, in
today's age, is considered unlettered and
uncivilized.
"Our hearts are restless and empty until they are filled with the Spirit for whom we were created."
