I agree with you. Trees would be better, they live long than flowers and need less care..and produce more oxygen.

On the other hand, flowers create festive or joyful mood. And it's OK for cities, particularly, popular among tourists to be decorated.

I don't think it is a waste of money. In my view the flowers' beauty helps people to live better.
But I was wondering: how many people are aware of flowers' beauty and their scent.

I agree with you , I think there are priorities more urgent than flowers , such like homeless and poor people , they need more care .

Well, I cannot undersign me under this post. It's a natural need of human beeings, to create something what keeps us positive... what about the popular song, sang by L.Armstrong What a wanderful world: "I see trees of green, red roses too, I see them bloom for me and you, And I think to myself what a wonderful world." Unfortunately cities are not a natural place where flowers can grow by them selfs, why not to help them? Why not to spend money, for something that's not our main-priority, but something what satisfies our esthetic needs, and what goes with that: needs of our human soul, mind, spirit ... Belive me, I could find some things, which we need less, then flowers: like stupid shows on TV, junk food, billboards with junk advertisements, gun shops, time-swallowing facebook... :-) Did I go too far? I hope you all know, what I mean.

I dont think it's a waste of money. I agree with Vega that trees live longer, need less care and produce more oxygen. However, flowers are between the most beautiful things of nature. We, people, differ from other animals because we are able to perceive the beauty. Yes :D it's a natural need of human being.
Moreover, Having more flowers in the city have many advantages such as: they help reduce people's stress or they make the city more beautiful so it attracts more tourists.
Obviously, the matter depends on many factors such as: the amount of money that the city can spend, the climate... but having flowers more or less will never be a waste.

Well that has pros and cons.

Pros:
If we spend on Flowers, The pros are that they will attract people towards the good fragrance.
It really refreshes mind and eyes when you see some greenery or flowers.
It is also good for decoration or style purpose.

Cons:
If we spend money on flowers, most of the time they get dried.
They need alot of time to look after them.
They are very soft, can be easily broken or damaged by the high air flow.
You cant get anything else from them except fragrance.
They cant live for as long as the trees.

For me flowers has its way to reach our mind and heart.
Why do we have to change how the world looks? In fact people have less money before than now but they can still afford to have flowers in their gardens. Or, maybe the people are more occupied now of thinking bigger things than just growing flowers.
