Dear teacher,

Mr. Bush aid the elections in Afghanistan are testament to the fact that "freedom is on the march, thanks in large measure to the United States of America.


Q: What is the function of "thanks" in the sentece? Is it a verb?

'Thanks to' is a phrasal preposition.
