be/have gone

Postby Cosmos » Mon Oct 18, 2004 9:52 am

Hello, teacher!

Would you please tell me if both have the same meaning?

1. I hoped to say hello to you, but you [had] already gone.
2. I hoped to say hello to you, but you [were] already gone.

Thank you very much.
