Sir,

He spent his days making money.

He =sub
spent=v

his days=object(dir. or ind ?)

making money=?

What is function of "making" here?

Can I write like

He spent her days to make money.

I think no, But I have no logic in my hand.

Thanks.

'Making money' is a gerund phrase, here functioning as an adverbial, since it specifies HOW he spent his days.

You're right that an infinitive may not serve in place of a gerund in this construction.[/i]
