Dear teacher,

Which of the following is/are correct?

1. The testing started on 1 April.
2. The testing was started on 1 April.

3. The testing commenced on 1 April.
4. The testing was commenced on 1 April.

In the right circumstances all four are possible, but 1 and 3 are most likely.
