a) being listened to
(b) being listened

Dear ALAN,
I meant "being listened" in the second version. And now
1) Which version is correct?
2) And could YOU please explain why?..

(a).

The particle in a passivized phrasal VP must always be retained. Cf. e.g.

He was used to being looked at.

I do not like being spoken to in that way.
