instransitive

in this sentence: He goes to school. Why the verb GOES is intransitive. To me I understand intransitive have no direct object but "to school" is considered as direct object for this sentence. Why GOES is intransitive? please explan, thanks.

No, 'to school' is not a direct object of any kind. Some grammarians, however, would classify it as an 'adverbial indirect object'.
