Dear Alan,

What do you call the following phrases since they are not considered to be "appositives" ?

The quiz, as well as all workbook exercises, was collected.
His jacket, not his shirt or his socks, always seems to match his slacks.

Many thanks
I wish you a happy new year.

Regarding the first, it is essentially an adverbial (being functionally identical to 'in addition to...')

Some speakers would not consider the second to be good usage, preferring 'unlike' to 'not'. By the lights of this revision, we would also reckon this phrase an adverbial. In its present form, however, some linguists would apply the label 'negative appositive'.
