singular or plural?

Post by kalaris »

Hello everyone,

I'm having a bit of trouble with the following sentence:

We care about your child and will ensure that they are healthy, stay safe and enjoy being a part of our institution.

Is it okay to write "they" when referring to "your child"? Seems right to me but a little unsure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Informally, yes, but more formally '(s)he' would be preferable.
