English grammar help. Grammar questions from ESL learners

Are these sentences correct:

1-For the second time, they left Old Trafford not on the losing end.

2-He left the room not in a wheelchair.

3-He left the room, not in a wheelchair.

1, yes. 2 & 3, no.

A not-phrase of this sort generally needs either to be complemented by a following but-phrase or modified in some way, as here by 'for the second time'.
