A sentence: The longer I live the more this idol worship appeals to me, and the more dangerous seems to me monotheism in its pure from.

For the above, why not 'the more dangerous monotheism in its pure from seems to me'? When the object is long, we place it behind:

eg The king bestows to him a title that is extremely long.

(=The king bestows a title that is extremely long to him)

But in that sentence, MONOTHEISM is the subject, how can it be changed?

The inverted construction is a literary option.
